How to Choose a Moisturiser That Fits Your Routine

A moisturiser does not have to feel heavy to be useful. The best one is usually the formula you can use comfortably and consistently.

Begin with texture

Lotions are usually light and easy to layer under sunscreen or makeup. Creams often feel richer and can be useful when skin feels dry. Gel creams can feel refreshing for people who prefer a weightless finish.

Pay attention to how your skin feels

If your face feels tight after cleansing, you may prefer a more nourishing cream. If you feel shiny by midday, a lighter lotion or gel may be more comfortable. Skin can change with weather, stress and your routine, so it is normal to adjust seasonally.

Keep the ingredient list simple at first

When you are starting out, choose a fragrance-free product if your skin is sensitive. Ingredients such as glycerin, ceramides and hyaluronic acid are commonly used to support hydration, but no single ingredient works identically for everyone.

Try one product at a time

Patch test a new product and use it for a few weeks before adding another change. This helps you identify what suits your skin and what does not.

For persistent redness, itching, acne or a rash, stop using products that sting and speak with a dermatologist or qualified health professional.
